School access — how it is calculated
The education score measures how easy it is to reach a good school from a given address. We combine proximity, variety of options, and academic quality measured by official exam results.
Three components
Distance to the nearest primary or basic school and the breadth of choice within walking distance. Narrower radius — families rarely send a child to a basic school more than a kilometer away.
High schools and secondary schools have a wider catchment. We evaluate proximity and variety in a broader radius — assuming families are willing to travel farther.
Official NVO and DZI exam results as a proxy for academic quality. We take the three best schools within 5 km with decreasing weights.
Data
Education facility locations come from OpenStreetMap and the Ministry of Education registry. NVO and DZI results are aggregated from publicly available Ministry reports.
What we do not measure
We do not assess private tutoring, extracurricular activities, individual teacher quality, or building infrastructure. The score covers only physical accessibility and the academic metrics of schools.
